Professor Wei Liu, M.D., PhD,

Prof. Wei Liu was born in China in 1969 and did his medical studies at Norman Bethune University of Medical Science in Changchun from 1987 to 1992. In 2003, he got the PhD degree in Jilin University. It was in 1992 he begun the career as a thoracic surgeon. He is currently professor and associate director of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Bethune First Hospital of Jilin University. Prof. Liu received postgraduate training in general thoracic surgery in many important thoracic centers throughout the world. He studied VATS at Wales Hospital of Chinese University of Hong Kong with Prof. Anthony PC Yim in 2001 and 2005; he learned about lung cancer basic research at Tokyo Medical University Hospital in Japan with Prof. Kato Harubumi. He also studied general thoracic surgery at Laval University in Canada with Prof. Jean Deslauriers in 2006 and lung cancer multidisciplinary management at Mount Sinai Hospital of New York University in USA with Prof. Scott Swanson in 2008. After learning from so many internationally known thoracic surgeons throughout the world, he pioneered the establishment of lung cancer multidisciplinary team in Jilin Province of China in 2005, he is the one of few thoracic surgeons who applied the uniportal VATS technique into thoracic surgery in mainland of China in the early of 2013; Prof. Wei Liu is also the first one who lead and developed the lung transplantation team in Jilin Province in 2014. He also has many international collaboration research projects focusing on lung cancer and lung transplantation at home and abroad; he is an active member in several academic organization in the country and province.
